SUPERIOR ORNAMENTAL TREE SPECIES

Haoyu Buxus sinica var.Parvifolia.Zhai
"Haoyu Pearl Boxwood"

Haoyu Buxus sinica var.Parvifolia.zhai, referred to as Haoyu pearl boxwood, belongs to the Boxwood family and the genus Boxwood. It is a new clone variety of Zhenzhuhuangyang selected and bred by Jiangsu, Haoyu Landscape after 30 years of introduction, domestication, and long-term cultivation of the unique species of wild zhenzhuhuangyang in East China. It is named because it has many irreplaceable excellent characteristics of the original variety of zhenzhuhuangyang and was first discovered in Jiangsu Rugao Haoyu Garden by Mr. Zhai Jinru.
Zhenzhuhuangyang is an endangered and precious ornamental tree species unique to China. It was originally only scattered in some subtropical mountain areas in East China. It has weak adaptability and extremely slow growth. The plant has difficulties to survive after descending from the mountains. According to field investigations, zhenzhuhuangyang is facing dual pressures from the natural environment and human activities, especially illegal excavation, and habitat destruction in the past few decades, which has led to a sharp decline in its population. Due to the continuous fragmentation of habitats and the increasing difficulty in communication between populations, the zhenzhuhuangyang was confined to some small, isolated areas and was eventually divided into small island-like subpopulations. The expansion of the distance between zhenzhuhuangyang habitats increases the difficulty of gene exchange, intensifies inbreeding, reduces genetic recombination, reduces genetic diversity, and makes natural reproduction difficult. At present, natural populations of zhenzhu (boxwood) have been found in many distribution points recorded in the literature, and it is obvious that some genetic resources have been lost.
The successful cultivation of Haoyu zhenzhuhuangyang will change the endangered status of pearl boxwood while being widely used by humans.

Growth Habits 0f Haoyu Pearl Boxwood

Compared with other types of pearl boxwood, the biggest feature of good-rain boxwood is its strong adaptability and rapid growth. Taking the four-year-old plants that can be observed and compared in batches as an example, the comprehensive stem diameter, height, canopy diameter, number of branches, etc. According to the indicators, it can be determined that its growth rate is at least 5 times faster. It needs to be emphasized that the so-called "rapid growth" of haoyu pearl boxwood is only relative to the original variety of pearl boxwood, which was extremely difficult to grow. Compared with many landscaping plants as a tree species, its growth rate is close to that of ordinary melon-seeded boxwood, which is still slow. This irreplaceable specificity of good-rain boxwood gives it unlimited possibilities for wide application in the field of horticulture.

Phenotypic Characteristics Of Haoyu Pearl Boxwood

The leaves of Haoyu pearl boxwood are flat, wide oval shaped, without apex, dense and bright. Young leaves are slightly large, yellow-green colored. It naturally shrinks in size when mature and becomes dark green. There is a light halo on the edge of the leaves, which turns yellow when exposed to sufficient light. It is reddish-brown during the dormant period in winter, and mostly turns bright red before turning green in spring. The contrast between leaf colors is obvious throughout the four seasons. The branches of Haoyu pearl boxwood are short and dense, with short internodes, extending diagonally or flatly. The tree shape is low and compact, small but looks large, with a strong sense of hierarchy and beautiful natural shape. Compared with other original types of pearl boxwood, haoyu pearl boxwood does not bear fruit, has a short dormancy period, strong growth, and significantly improved stress resistance and adaptability.”

The Plant Type And Color Change Characteristics Of
Haoyu Pearl Boxwood

The Haoyu pearl boxwood, is not only an excellent bonsai and potted tree species, but also has many ornamental characteristics of flowers and plants.
The leaves of the Haoyu pearl boxwood will show different colours as the seasons change and as the young and old leaves. This is the result of sunlight photosynthesis during the production and accumulation of chlorophyll and anthocyanins in the leaves at different times. The leaves turn red in winter, which is one of the main characteristics of Haoyu pearl boxwood . Dormancy and light are the necessary conditions for haoyu pearl boxwood leaves to turn red. – breeder

The Application Value Of The Haoyu Pearl Boxwood

A plant can be related to the rise and fall of a nation, such as wild rice in China; a plant can affect the economic lifeline of a country, such as tulips in the Netherlands; some plants can change the industrial status of a region, such as the five-needled pine, Osaka pine in Japan. At present, natural medicine is the direction of global development, and natural medicine must rely on the research and protection of plant resources.
The specificity of the Haoyu pearl boxwood is not only compared to other boxwood species, but also compared to other common horticultural ornamental plants, so it has a very broad market prospect. In the early stage of the market, Haoyu pearl boxwood can be mainly used in the planting and viewing of bonsais, potted plants, home gardening, miniature landscapes, urban high-end scenes, sky gardens, and landscape gardens. In the later stage, it can be widely used in the renewal of urban greening landscapes, and even the return introduction and ecological restoration of pearl boxwood in its native habitat. At the same time, its leaves are dense, evergreen, flat and shade-tolerant, and can effectively absorb harmful ultraviolet radiation from computers and other sources. The plant perceive the grandeur in the small and the distant in the near. It can adjust the pupils and eliminate eye fatigue, thereby helping to reduce the occurrence of myopia.
